We work alongside exceptional entrepreneurs to ensure the business is able to deliver sustainable growth and outperform its competitors. In addition to providing our portfolio companies with capital, BFG provides teams with the advice most needed to make critical decisions and maximize opportunities. This advice spans operational strategy, tactical marketing, channel development, organizational design and capital planning.

We look to invest alongside passionate founders with an exceptional product(s), a disruptive and distinguished brand, and a clearly defined strategy. BFG seeks partnerships with organizations that are making positive environmental and social contributions, both locally and globally.

- Have achieved or have a line of sight to achieving $1mm in trailing 12 month sales

Founder & Managing Partner
Founder and Managing Partner of Boulder Food Group, Tom previously co-founded EVOL Foods and was the COO of Bear Naked Granola. Under Tom’s management, both businesses were successfully sold to public companies. Tom proudly serves on two food focused non-profit boards, the Growe Foundation and Organic Voices (Just Label It). The Growe Foundation focuses on experiential learning opportunities for children through Boulder Valley School District. Organic Voices has a dual mandate, specifically 1) to promote the growth of organic food and 2) to work at the federal level to achieve mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. Tom was born and raised in Santa Fe, NM. He attended Santa Fe Preparatory School and then Vanderbilt University where he graduated magna cum laude with dual degrees in Economics and Spanish. Tom lives in Boulder, CO with his wife and two sons.
Dayton previously co-founded Function, a venture-backed health and wellness beverage company, which Dayton built from idea-conception to $20 million in retail sales until its acquisition by Sunsweet Growers, Inc. Prior to Function, Dayton was an executive in the strategy group at The Walt Disney Company where he worked for over seven years focusing on mergers & acquisitions and operating strategy. Dayton began his career as an analyst in investment banking and spent time as a management consultant for Bain & Co. Dayton serves on the Board of Directors for the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of SoCal and also serves on the Leadership Council of the Fulfillment Fund, an LA non-profit focused on underprivileged youth and education. Dayton was born and raised in Baltimore, MD where he attended McDonogh School. Dayton received his BA from Vanderbilt University and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Previously Ben worked at The Yucaipa Companies, a private equity and venture capital firm founded by Ron Burkle focused on middle market companies and growth capital. In addition, Ben spent five years working in New York for the hedge funds Hutchin Hill Capital and Oak Hill Advisors. He began his career in investment banking at UBS focusing on mergers & acquisitions. Ben was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and attended Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT. Ben received his BA from Duke University and lives in Boulder, CO where he is also a competitive triathlete.
Previously Tyler worked for MicroBiome Therapeutics, a natural supplement startup in Boulder, CO focused on improving health status by interacting with the human microbiome. Tyler was born and raised in Boulder, CO and attended The Taft School in Watertown, CT. Tyler graduated magna cum laude from Occidental College in Los Angeles and lives in Boulder, CO.
Alex has been investing in food companies since 2005. Prior to working with Tom to establish BFG Partners, Alex worked at Arlon Group LLC from 2005 to 2015. Alex serves on the boards of Chameleon Cold Brew, JC’s Pie Pops and Cambridge Franchise Partners, and acts as a board advisor to Kriser’s Natural Pet and Seed + Salt. Alex previously served on the Boards of Kettle Cuisine, Wholesome Sweeteners, HMR Foods, Door to Door Organics, and Excelline Food Products. Alex received his BA from Brown University, where he was known as the “speed specialist” on the Men’s Ski Team.Born and raised on the east coast, Alex now resides in San Francisco with his wife.
Managing Principal of Arlon
Michelle is a Managing Principal of Arlon, a middle-market private equity food and agriculture investment firm with a global network that supports investments across the entire food supply chain in the Americas. At Arlon, she oversees the investment process and the management and support of the Arlon’s portfolio companies. Michelle previously worked for Weston Presidio, a middle market private equity firm that raised approximately $3.3 billion across five funds, for eleven years, where she was responsible for leading due diligence and investment execution in a variety of sectors. Prior to Weston Presidio, Michelle was the Editorial Director for Ivy Productions, Inc. and the President of Lookout Media. Michelle serves on the Boards of HMR Foods Holding, LP, Wholesome Sweeteners and Door to Door Organics and also serves as a Director of Vitamin Angels, a not-for-profit organization. Michelle was born and raised in Pensacola, FL. Michelle received her BA with honors from Harvard University and her MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.
Managing Principal of Arlon
Ben is a Managing Principal of Arlon, a middle-market private equity food and agriculture investment firm with a global network that supports investments across the entire food supply chain in the Americas. At Arlon, he oversees the investment process and the management and support of the Arlon’s portfolio companies. Ben previously co-founded The Grow Network, which was sold to the McGraw-Hill Companies in 2004. Prior to The Grow Network, Ben was a Strategic and Financial Analyst for Continental Grain Company. In 2005, he was a National Finalist for the White House Fellowship. Ben serves on the Boards of K-Mac Holdings Corp., The Chia Company, Alico Incorporated, Grandpoint Capital, Inc. and Rose Displays Ltd. and is a Member of the Alumni Council of Collegiate School in New York City. Ben was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Ben received his BA, cum laude, from Princeton University.
